The Department of Textiles, Merchandising, and Interiors welcomes Alexis Alleyne-Caputo as a Willson Center Visiting Fellow from Sept. 9-13, with public events Sept. 10-12. Alleyne-Caputo will share insights on her practice, visual culture, poetics and politics, and social change through a series of events open to students, faculty, and the wider community. Alleyne-Caputo is an anthropologist, interdisciplinary artist, educator and researcher. Her master project, Afro Diaries, is a collection of work by, for, and about women of color that offers a window into the landscape of miscarriages women endure. It is permanently archived at Goddard College, University of Miami special collections and New York University. She is a guest artist and faculty at New York Film Academy. Alleyne-Caputo was previously university professor at University of Miami and at Miami-Dade College, guest artist at Harlem School of the Arts and art consultant at Florida Memorial University. A singer-songwriter, poet, writer and journalist, she is also a certified arts in medicine practitioner and scholar at University of Florida Center for Arts in Medicine.
