About this Event

When David Lynch died recently, film critics and fans around the world began assessing his contributions and legacy. Indiewire proclaimed him the world’s most influential filmmaker. The New Yorker’s Richard Brody explained, “Lynch sees what’s kept invisible and reveals what’s kept scrupulously hidden," and Cahiers du Cinéma pointed out that every new project by the enigmatic Lynch fascinated spectators and critics like no one else. In addition to his long list of startling feature films and the Twin Peaks franchise, which changed TV forever, Lynch’s art works were displayed at the Cartier Foundation’s Museum in Paris. He has won multiple top film festival awards, including at Cannes and Venice, and received the French Legion of Honor. Lynch also launched his groundbreaking Transcendental Meditation Foundation. His creative legacy is truly impressive.
This panel will assess several aspects of David Lynch’s impressive, uncompromising career in film and television. Panelists include musicologist Stephen Davis Turner (Tennessee State University, Ph.D. UGA), film theorist Tim Holland (Emory University), media industry specialist Kate Fortmueller (Georgia State University), and film historian Christopher Sieving (UGA Film Studies), and UGA Film Studies alum Dave Marr (Willson Center). The panel is hosted by UGA Film Studies Professor Emeritus Richard Neupert. This roundtable is free and open to the public.
