 Nesbit\, associate professor in the College of Environment + Design.\n\nAb
 out the Seminar: Nesbit’s talk will discuss the ways in which Hot Corner
  lies at the intersection of capital and cultural heritage in the 21st cen
 tury. The fight over the West Downtown Historic District—which surrounds
  but does not include Hot Corner—sheds light on the dynamics of preserva
 tion today.\n\nAbout the Speaker: Dr. Nesbit's work explores the intersect
 ion between digital tools and humanistic questions\, particularly question
 s touching on the history and spaces of the American South. He earned a Ph
 .D. in history at the University of Virginia in 2013\, where he wrote abou
 t the geography of slavery and emancipation in the Civil War South. From 2
 009 until 2014 he was the associate director of the Digital Scholarship La
 b at the University of Richmond. He has led digital history projects such 
 as Visualizing Emancipation\, which used a wide array of textual sources
 —ranging from military correspondence to runaway slave advertisements fo
 und in southern newspapers--to map out where and when slavery fell apart d
 uring the American Civil War.\n\n\nThis event is part of the Environmental
  Ethics Certificate Program Seminar Series.\n\nAll lectures are free and o
