Red Clay Writing Project Saturday Morning Series, Translanguaging in the ELA Classroom

Teachers will be introduced to the idea of “translanguaging” as well as the theory and practice within it, and why it matters for their English Language Arts classrooms. Within this theory, Judith will present creative teaching approaches that engage multilanguage learners in the classroom while also attending to the common core standards. The workshop will involve both collaborative and hands-on activities, which will allow educators to explore translanguaging possibilities in their classrooms and make plans for implementation.

Instructor: Judith Johnson, Jackson County Middle School

Johnson is a seventh grade ELA teacher at Jackson County Middle School and a third year doctoral student in LLED, English education. One of her research passions considers the ways educators can leverage heritage languages and literacy practices in the classroom.
