About this Event
110 Carlton Street, Athens, GA 30602
In this workshop, we will look closely at the Divisive Concepts Bill in Georgia (The Protect Students First Act) to better understand the Bill and how it impacts teachers and schools. We will also think specifically about K-5 Social Studies standards and how to teach within this new context.
Workshop Facilitator: Melissa Kurtz
Melissa Kurtz is a Red Clay Writing Project Fellow and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Theory and Practice at UGA. She has worked in public education for 22 years as a Spanish teacher, Family Engagement Specialist, and as an ESOL teacher. She is currently working as an Instructional Coach at Winder Elementary School where she supports teachers and students to engage in meaningful and fun learning experiences.
The Red Clay Writing Project workshops are led by Red Clay teacher consultants who are alumni of the program and leaders in writing instruction. Workshops are open to all educators who want to strengthen or enhance their writing skills. The Red Clay Writing Project is part of the National Writing Project, a national effort cultivating teacher-leaders in writing instruction since 1974.
