Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell makes his UGA Presents debut with Plays With Music, a concert celebrating his long career as Broadway’s “last leading man” (New York Times). Backed by a trio of musicians, “Stokes” wraps his signature baritone around some of the greatest musical theatre classics and American songbook standards of our time to charm us with his “unprecedented fusion of theatrical heroism, pop-jazz sizzle, and emotional vulnerability” (New York Times).
A veteran of numerous Broadway shows, including Ragtime, Man of La Mancha, Kiss Me Kate, and Shuffle Along, Mitchell’s performances have earned him numerous awards and induction into the Theatre Hall of Fame. He recently completed a run of The Light in the Piazza opposite Renée Fleming at the L.A. Opera. An in-demand screen actor, Mitchell gained prominence from his seven-year stint on the CBS television show, Trapper John, M.D. Recent credits include appearances on Madam Secretary, Mr. Robot, Glee, The Good Fight, Fam, and others. He also voiced the character of Jethro in the Dreamworks animated film, The Prince of Egypt.
