About this Event
As previously outlined last fall, Phase 2 of the North Campus Infrastructure project is slated for the forthcoming summer months. This ongoing infrastructure upgrade and renewal project will modernize a significant portion of underground infrastructure and also directly supports the Holmes-Hunter Academic Building Renovation.
Work will commence on Saturday May 14, 2022 and is anticipated to conclude by Sunday August 14, 2022.
The area of disturbance will be similar to the area of exploratory work conducted during the Spring Break week, extending from the Herty Drive entrance off of Broad Street to the parking area behind New College. The impacted area will be fenced and inaccessible, with an emergency fire access lane maintained at all times. Signage will be provided to route pedestrians safely around the area and ADA access will be maintained to all buildings. Parking and Transportation Services (TPS) is making accommodations for permit holders utilizing the ADA parking behind New College and those individuals will be directly contacted by TPS.
Access to the Chapel Bell will be maintained with the exception of the following periods:
May 15 to May 20 for underground exploratory work, and July 10 to August 12, 2022 when the underground electrical service to the Chapel is replaced.
Please see attached logistics map of the area. A construction advisory for this work will be distributed to the campus community in early May.
As an additional reminder, the third and final phase of this infrastructure project will occur in 2023 and will include work within buildings on the north campus utility loop, connecting each of the buildings to the new infrastructure. All three phases must be complete prior to the reopening of the Holmes-Hunter Academic Building, currently anticipated in late 2023, early 2024.
Thank you for your continued patience, assistance, and understanding as we work to provide reliable and resilient infrastructure to support the mission of UGA.
Please don’t hesitate to contact Chris Daigle, FMD Project Manager (ckdaigle@uga.edu ) with any questions or concerns.
