The German filmmaker Mo Asumang will take part in a meet and greet in the lobby of Joe Brown Hall from 9:30-10:30 a.m., followed by a screening of her 2014 film The Aryans with audience Q&A across the street in the Fine Arts Building Balcony Theatre (Room 400).

Having received death threats herself because of her race, Asumang follows the history and meaning of the word Aryan. Her film goes on a journey trying to understand this term and its implications. Her documentary touches the personal connections she has to Nazi Germany via her grandmother, brings her to meet White Supremacists and Neo-Nazis in contemporary Germany, and also brings her to the U.S., including to Atlanta. Throughout, she has discussions with intellectuals, a Holocaust survivor, and others, while trying to understand how the concept of the Aryan motivates people to express violence and hatred to others. This personal film celebrates the 10th anniversary of its release this year, but it resonates today in Germany and the U.S.
