Lunchtime Time Machine talk series presents Dr. Stephen Berry, Gregory Professor of the Civil War Era, as he explores the question "How did we double human life expectancy?" Berry feels compelled to study "old, unhappy, far-off things." A historian of mortality, his research explores the intersections of race, class, gender, family, violence, and death in the 19th century South.
