About this Event
Each June, Pride Month is celebrated to commemorate and honor the 1969 Stonewall Riots and the current and past movements to achieve equal rights and opportunities for the LGBTQ+ community. Pride Month was named in honor of Brenda Howard, an activist nicknamed “Mother of Pride.” Initially a day-long celebration, Gay Pride Day, Pride Month has grown into a month of celebrations including parades, social gatherings, and educational workshops. This month we recognize the impact of the LGBTQ+ Community on our past, present, and future and encourage you to participate in Pride events and review resources to support students, colleagues, family, and friends. The Athens Pride and Queer Collective has events and resources available including information about Athens first ever Pride Parade and Community Resource Fest.
