DESCRIPTION:The Georgia Review and the University of Georgia’s Performing A
 rts Center invite the public to a reading with Finnish-American author Hann
 a Pylväinen\, where she will read from The End of Drum-Time\, her historica
 l novel set in the Scandinavian tundra during 1851. The book\, which was a 
 finalist for the 2023 National Book Award\, follows a Lutheran minister tri
 es in vain to  convert the native Sámi reindeer herders to his faith. The r
 eading will be followed by a book sale\, signing\, and reception. Free and 
 open to the public.\n\nPylväinen is the author of the novels We Sinners\, w
 hich received the Whiting Award and the Balcones Fiction Prize\, and The En
 d of Drum-Time\, a finalist for the 2023 National Book Award in fiction\, b
 oth from Henry Holt & Co. Her work has appeared in Harper’s\, The New York 
 Times\, The New York Times Magazine\, the Chicago Tribune\, and The Wall St
 reet Journal\; she is the recipient of residencies at MacDowell\, Yaddo\, a
 nd the Lásságámmi Foundation\, as well as fellowships from the Lower Manhat
 tan Cultural Council\, the American-Scandinavian Foundation\, two fellowshi
 ps from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown\, a Princeton Arts Fellow
 ship at Princeton University\, and a Cullman Fellowship at the Dorothy and 
 Lewis B. Cullman Center for Writers and Scholars at the New York Public Lib
 rary. She has taught at the University of Michigan\, Princeton University\,
  and Virginia Commonwealth University\; currently\, she teaches at the Warr
 en Wilson College MFA Program for Writers. She lives in Philadelphia.
