Effective teaching and learning rely on more than just the mechanisms of memory. Both a learner's motivation to learn and their metacognitive behaviors can have a significant effect on whether and how much they learn. What instructors do in their role can have an impact on both student metacognition and motivation, and, ultimately, their success as learners. In this workshop, instructors will focus on exactly that: theories of motivation and metacognition in relation to learning, and how they can inform teaching.
