Chris Coates-Mitchell, Willson Center Department-Invited Artist and guest choreographer in the Department of Dance, has created a new work for UGA dance students, “Get in Line,” which will be performed as part of REPERTORY Change in Motion, the 2018 Spring Dance Concert, presented by the University of Georgia Department of Dance on April 5-7 at 8 p.m.and April 7 at 2 p.m. in the New Dance Theatre, located in the Dance Building between Soule and Green Streets (off Sanford Drive).Chris Coates-Mitchell began his training in Atlanta, GA before pursuing a professional career in New York City. He has toured Europe and the U.S. with Jeff Amsden’s “A Few Good Men …..Dancing” and danced for many showcases including Broadway Dance Center, Peridance, DNA, and Steps on Broadway. Chris has also performed with the Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. Currently he is a member of Oliver and Teri Steele’s company, STEELEDANCE and has performed with BARE Dance Company, Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre and Salvatore La RussaDance Theater in NYC. Chris has done many industrials and commercials for top companies, including Wal-Mart (choreographed by Ray Leeper), the E.L.C.A, and New York Sports Club. Notable performances including dancingwith recording artist and Academy Award Winner Jennifer Hudson and in theAnnual Easter Bonnet Competition-Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Chrishas been a guest instructor at Peridance and The Joffrey Ballet School inNY, as well as at many colleges across the country. For the past 10 years, he has been a choreographer and teacher for The Joffrey Summer Jazz and Contemporary Intensive in NYC, Joffrey South, and Joffrey Southwest.
