Research skills, generative AI, lasers, and a button making machine; this makerspace workshop has it all!
This workshop is open to all UGA students, especially those interested in submitting work to UGA’s Generative AI Competition, Creating Impact for the UGA Community.
In this 90-minute workshop, students will learn to use Adobe Illustrator’s new text-to-vector graphic generative AI feature to create fully editable SVG files and basic file editing with Adobe Illustrator. Users will then engrave their SVG files with the makerspace’s laser cutter and use the button maker to create a unique 2.25” button of their AI generated, engraved icon. In addition, participants will become familiar with the Question Formulation Technique to create research questions and effective AI prompts around the contest’s charge, “Use generative AI tool to create something meaningful that enriches the UGA community or experience.”
This workshop will be co-taught by Science Research & Instruction Librarian, Stephanie Blair, and Emerging Technologies Librarian, Andrew Johnson at the McBay Science Library Makerspace. Students are encouraged to bring their laptops loaded with Adobe Illustrator, version 28 already installed. Adobe Illustrator is provided for free to UGA students through EITS.
The UGA Generative AI Competition: Creating Impact for the UGA Community is facilitated by the Faculty Learning Community “Innovating with AI: In and Beyond the Classroom” and co-sponsored by the Provost’s Office, the Office of Instruction, and the Center for Teaching and Learning.
