CANCELLED: Garden Travels: Italian Countryside

Barbara Turner, Merry Anderson, Shirley Baker, Susan Drinkard and Karen Radde traveled to Cucina della Terra, a nine-day cooking school and travel adventure in the area surrounding Ciusi, Italy, this past October. The small town is located about midway between Florence and Rome. While staying in a local agritourismo (working farm) early parts of the day were spent touring local small cities and towns, learning about the culture and history of the area, exploring local markets, hunting (and finding) truffles, picking olives and watching them being turned into oil. Afternoons and evenings were spent in the kitchen with students from three countries, learning to prepare traditional local specialties including seafood and local fall produce, grilling local meats and sausages and, of course, making gnocchi, pasta and traditional desserts.

Light reception before the talk provided by the Friends of the Garden.
