Friends First Friday: Secrets of Beech Haven
Beech Haven has been called one of the most significant examples of a vernacular arts and craft-style landscape in the southeastern United States. It is a natural and cultural enclave previously owned and designed by the Rowland family. The 130 acres along the Middle Oconee River is one of the last remaining green spaces on the Atlanta Highway commercial corridor. Krisztian Varsa and Nat Kuykendall of the Athens Land Trust will present a program on the history, present and future of Beech Haven. This presentation will describe the site’s unique cultural and ecological history along with current projects now underway to restore and prepare for the future of the property. RSVP by noon, Friday, Sept. 6. at www.botgarden.uga.edu or 706-542-6138. Includes a full breakfast.
