About this Event
300 S Hull Street, Athens, GA 30605
Join attendees for Free the Tapes: Home Movie Edition, hosted by the Walter J. Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection (BMA). They're offering free digitization of audiovisual materials to all community members. Lend them up to five items, which will be digitized by the BMA digitization unit staff. The donation period ended March 29. Items will be returned, and the digitized files will be delivered on April 20. On that day, join guests at Special Collections from 1-3 p.m. for the culminating event — Free the Tapes: Home Movie Edition. It's a celebration of home movies where organizers will screen clips from the community videos that have been digitized in the preceding weeks. Additionally, they'll showcase a curated selection of home movies and amateur films from the vault. Archive staff will be available to answer any questions about preserving items. Plus, they'll unveil the AV Petting Zoo, giving guests the chance to handle and interact with different formats and equipment. Please note that community members retain ownership of the items they lend for digitization, and BMA will not keep any copies. Exhibiting items during the event is optional, and preferences will be noted during drop-off.
