“For Home and Country” World War I Film Series: "The African Queen"

The African Queen is a tale of two companions with mismatched, "opposites attract" personalities who develop an implausible love affair as they travel together downriver in Africa around the start of World War I. This film by director John Huston, based on the 1935 novel of the same name by C.S. Forester, is one of the classics of Hollywood adventure filmmaking, with comedy and romance besides. Starring Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart, who won the Oscar for best actor for his role. (1957, NR, 105 min.) Presented in conjunction with For Home and Country: World War I Posters from the Collection of Murray and Ann Blum. Sponsored by UGA Parents Leadership Council.
