UGA’s Department of Kinesiology and Sport Instruction Research Lab in the Mary Frances College of Education are excited to offer Fit Dawgs® VIP, a healthy lifestyle camp for youth with visual impairments and blindness.

Our camp schedule consists of health, fitness, and recreation content. During the course of the week, your camper will also learn adapted sports and activities designed for athletes with visual impairments like goalball, beep baseball, blind soccer, and adapted track and field. The camp climate is recreational and encourages a challenge by choice model in which your camper will be supported by our UGA student staff to try new activities throughout the week.

Campers should:

  • Be between the ages of 9 and 17 years of age during the week of camp
  • Have a diagnosed visual impairment ranging from low vision to no light perception
  • Be able to follow activity-related and safety instructions (appropriate for their age level)
  • Be able to navigate the camp spaces with support from camp staff (e.g., be able to use vision or mobility aids to move around gym and classrooms)
  • Be able to complete self-care tasks independently appropriate for their age level with support from camp staff (e.g., toileting, feeding, etc.)
