About this Event
Myers Quad and Tate Student Center Theater
Financial Literacy on the Lawn, a signature event of the inaugural Financial Literacy Week at UGA, will be held on April 12 from 12-4 p.m.
The event at Myers Quad will include interactive games, inflatables, music, food from Jimmy John's and Smoothie King, and lots of great financial information and resources.
The inaugural Financial Literacy Week at UGA is intended to raise awareness and create conversation around money and its significance in our lives,' said Megan Ford, director of UGA's ASPIRE Clinic and FACS assistant to the dean for applied interdisciplinary programs. 'Financial well-being tends to be an underrepresented, but incredibly important, dimension of our overall health and well-being. FACS is uniquely positioned for educating and impacting the UGA community through our amazing students, faculty and programs.'Financial Literacy Week continues on April 13 with a screening of '$avvy. Women. Money. Freedom.' at the Tate Student Center Theater from 2-4:30 p.m.
“$avvy is an award-winning documentary film about women’s financial empowerment, and we are thrilled that the UGA provost’s office has helped us bring this to the UGA community,' Ford said. 'People, particularly women, often feel intimidation and shame when it comes to money talk. Providing more space for financial conversations helps normalize our feelings about money, creates more empathy for ourselves and each other, and opens the door to new knowledge and solutions. Through the film screening, it is our hope to decrease this stigma, reduce money shame and create spaces for people to feel safe to begin engaging about their money lives."
Following the film, we will have a powerhouse panel discussion featuring several FACS alumni: Kaylee Ranck, Timi Jorgensen and Contey Smith, FACS faculty member Diann Moorman and Atlanta-based financial wellness expert, Tania Brown.
