More about the exhibit: Beyond the ’96 Games: Atlanta’s Olympic Legacy highlights Atlanta’s unexpected journey to hosting the 1996 Summer Olympics. Despite being considered an underdog, Atlanta triumphed over cities to host the Centennial Games, which introduced new sports and expanded opportunities for athletes. While the strategic efforts of local leaders, whose vision and collaboration led to one of the few financially successful Olympics, the exhibit also uses ephemera, newspapers, and reports to explore critiques of commercialization and the lasting impact on Georgia.
