Celebrate the opening of the Hargrett Library’s newest exhibition, "From Farms to Fast Fashion: Unraveling the Need for Sustainable Style."

The event will include tours of the gallery, a clothing swap hosted by UGA student group Fair Fashion, and light refreshments. Attendees interested in participating in the clothing swap can bring clothing, shoes, and other accessories to the Large Event Space (Room 285) during the event. The more participants bring, the more they can swap.

More About the Exhibit: "From Farms to Fast Fashion" tells the story of how clothing became cheaper, faster to make, and easier to care for, while uncovering who ultimately pays the cost for the conveniences of “fast fashion.” It traces America’s rapid transition from being a nation of producers to one of consumers while exploring the social, economic, and political systems that impact consumption practices. The objects displayed illustrate the dramatic shift from traditional consumption norms of the pre-industrial era to a new consumer culture that values novelty and efficiency over durability and craftsmanship. The display was made possible with generous support from the Lucy Hargrett Draper Center and Archives for the Study of the Rights of Women in History and Law.
