About this Event
View mapThe final Philosopher's Walk of the semester will feature Alfie Vick of the College of Environment + Design leading the hike.
Rock and Shoals Outcrop, is a natural area of shoals harboring growths of mosses, lichens, ferns, and numerous other plants. The Athens-Clarke County Commission approved a conservation easement in 2021 to protect 22 acres of land in a nature preserve the county owns.
Rock and Shoals is not well marked, but there is a small sign for it on Barnett Shoals Rd, and the street is named Rock and Shoals. You turn off of Barnett Shoals onto Rock and Shoals which dead ends. The trailhead is located along a residential road so please park along the street near the dead-end and away from any driveways to be respectful of the homeowners. From there we will take the short walk onto the site to enjoy the granite outcrops.
On the map, notice that the street is called Rock and Shoals, and it is next to a historic house/B&B called The Colonels. Google maps directions.
