Book Discussion: Yesenia Barragan

Dr. Yesenia Barragan, assistant professor in the Department of History, Rutgers University, will discuss her forthcoming book Freedom’s Captives: Slavery and Gradual Emancipation on the Colombian Black Pacific (Cambridge, 2021).

After registering, attendees will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. A short presentation about the book will be followed by a question and answer session and general conversation.

Dr. Barragán is a historian of modern Latin America and the Caribbean, specializing in the transnational history of race, slavery, and emancipation in Afro-Latin America and the African diaspora in the Americas.

This talk is part of a series on Slavery, Race, and Gradual Freedom Workshop, and funded by the UGA Gable Chair Grant (Department of History), the Global Research Collaboration Grant, and the UGA-Liverpool Seed Grant.
