Join the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences for a Provost Seminar Series lecture, titled “A Retrospective and Prospective Look at the Value of Higher Education,” by Dr. Gary May, the Chancellor of the University of California, Davis, and national leader in higher education, inclusion, and STEM innovation.
May brings a distinguished record of leadership and service. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2018 for his impact on semiconductor manufacturing and expanding inclusion in engineering. In 2019, he was honored with a Leadership Award from the Association of University Research Parks. In 2020, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences for his contributions to academic excellence and access.
May will explore and detail the approaches of how universities can lead with both innovation and empathy in a rapidly changing world. Dr. Marshall Shepherd will engage in a discussion session following May's formal lecture to highlight the future of higher education and the importance of sustaining academic momentum.
The event will include a lecture, moderated discussion, and an audience Q&A. A light reception will follow on the New College lawn. This event is free and open to the public.
