The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Graduate Certificate has undergone changes!

The 15-hour graduate certificate previously required students to take one of two core courses (3 hours) and four courses of electives (12 hours). Following these changes, students have the option to take one of three course courses, and at least two of the elective courses must be taught within the Mary Frances College of Education.

In the core course, students will learn about the foundations of diversity, equity, and inclusion work across settings. Then, students will select four elective courses that teach about issues of race/ethnicity, social class, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, immigration, poverty, and other important contemporary sociocultural issues. As one of the main points of focus, students will develop a deeper understanding of systemic oppression in order to cultivate the awareness, knowledge, and skills necessary to make social change across a variety of settings.

Our office has updated the application and communications to reflect the changes to the certificate program. Students who applied and were accepted into the program prior to Spring 2023 are approved to maintain their original plan of study.

Our Office will be hosting a virtual open house on Friday, January 27th from 12-1p.m.

During our Open House, we will provide an overview of the program and its changes as well as discuss the application process. If you are interested in attending, we ask that you register. If you know someone who might be interested, please feel free to share this information with them! For any questions, email us at coedei@uga.edu
