Dr. El Hadji Malick Ndiaye will present and discuss his work as curator and director of the Théodore Monod Museum in Dakar, Senegal, as well as his new project entitled “Transmission.” At the Monod Museum, founded in 1936 as the French Institute of Black Africa (IFAN) and renamed the Fundamental Institute of Black Africa at independence, Ndiaye has experimented with research and exhibition projects that interweave contemporary art and historical heritage. This relationship lies at the heart of “Transmission” and underlies Ndiaye’s revitalization of the three museums under his supervision.

Ndiaye received his Ph.D. in art history from the University of Rennes II and is also a graduate of the Institute of Cultural Heritage in Paris. The art director of the 14th Dakar Biennale of Contemporary Arts (2022), Ndiaye was co-curator of Picasso in Dakar, 1972-2022, held at Dakar’s Museum of Black Civilizations. His residency in Atlanta is sponsored by Villa Albertine and the Consulate General of France.

Ndiaye’s visit to UGA is supported by the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts and the Department of Romance Languages. Please contact Rachel Gabara (rgabara@uga.edu) with any questions.
