About this Event
203 D. W. Brooks Drive, Athens, GA 30602
https://rivercenter.uga.eduRepresentatives from Georgia Association of Water Professionals and Gwinnett will present and facilitate discussion about stream restoration techniques on private property. Water utilities and stormwater programs often do stream restoration projects on public land, but stream bank erosion on smaller privately owned tracts also can add sediment to waterways and can be harder to address due to access and ownership issues. Since addressing these smaller streams can improve water quality and wildlife habitat, GAWP has been working to create a Georgia-specific curriculum to develop a state certification for small streambank stabilization projects to be done by homeowners, landscapers or volunteer programs. The certification will cover techniques, regulatory references, and the needs/benefits of these projects using test cases from local programs and other state-level certification programs. The guests include John Butler of the Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources and Caroline Smith, the director of Stormwater Engineering & Programming for the Georgia Association of Water Professionals.
