About this Event
312 Herty Drive, Athens, GA 30602
Description: The world is full of advice on how to market yourself: you should be on LinkedIn, you should network at conferences, you should have an elevator pitch. But how do you make sure you're doing all this well, and how do you tie together all the work you're doing? This session will guide attendees through building a marketing plan for themselves that will help them get their next job. They'll go through a series of self-reflection prompts to identify their most urgent needs and then build a communications action plan that they can deploy once the workshop ends. We'll discuss how to prioritize actions given limited time and identify choices participants get to make to protect and live out their identity-based values. Workshop feedback says participants leave this session energized and ready to take action. Bring a pen and paper to fully take advantage of the work time we'll have together.
Instructor Bio: Virginia is an award-winning storyteller who is unstoppably and loudly enthusiastic about how science makes life better. Since earning her Ecology Ph.D. at UGA in 2014, she has worked to diversify how people interact with science online. She sculpts digital relationships, designs communications strategies, and trains scholars to identify and meet their communications goals. Her outputs span platforms and include a science fashion campaign on Instagram, livestreamed interviews on YouTube, and all-day chats on Reddit. She most recently experimented with community-building from an Antarctic icebreaker, when she created a Whatsapp group that got Snoop Dogg to stop in and say hi!
