DESCRIPTION:The Willson Center for Humanities and Arts will welcome Angela 
 Brown\, a renowned operatic soprano who leads a nonprofit organization tha
 t provides cultural enrichment opportunities to underserved communities\, 
 to the University of Georgia Feb. 20-24 as the annual Delta Visiting Chair
  for Global Understanding. Brown’s week in residence will include learni
 ng sessions with students in the Hugh Hodgson School of Music and at Clark
 e Central High School\, and public events in the Hodgson School and the De
 lta Innovation Hub.\n\nBrown’s visit is presented by the Willson Center 
 in partnership with the Hodgson School\, the Institute for African America
 n Studies\, the Music Business Program\, the department of theatre and fil
 m studies\, and the Innovation Gateway. It is also part of UGA's Black His
 tory Month calendar.\n\nAt 7:30 p.m. Thursday\, Feb. 23\, Brown will perfo
 rm her signature show “Opera... from a Sistah's Point of View” in the 
 Hodgson School’s Edge Recital Hall. The program showcases the soprano’
 s formidable singing while making the material accessible to audiences wit
 h little or no exposure to opera or classical music. Through wry\, candid 
 explanations of opera plots that provide a context to the performances tha
 t is contemporary and colloquial\, Brown invites young and untrained audie
 nces to engage with an artistic medium to which they may never have felt c
 onnected.\n\nAdmission to this event is free and open to the public\, but 
 seats are limited and may be reserved here.\n\nThis event is part of the W
 illson Center's Global Georgia series of public events.\n\nAt 4 p.m. Frida
 y\, Feb. 24 at the Delta Innovation Hub\, 210 Spring St.\, Brown and Janet
  Jarriel\, founder of JEJ Artists talent agency\, will present “It Takes
  Two\,” a workshop on navigating the business side of a career in the ar
 ts in cooperation with a professional manager. This event is also free and
  open to all.
