Congress Week 2021: An Afternoon with Tamar Hallerman

The Russell Library is hosting a conversation with Atlanta Journal-Constitution senior reporter and former Washington correspondent Tamar Hallerman as part of its annual Congress Week celebration.

Dr. Audrey Haynes, associate professor of political science and director of the Applied Politics Certificate program, and Dr. Joseph Watson, Carolyn Caudell Tieger Professor of Public Affairs Communication, will moderate. Topics of discussion will include Hallerman’s experiences covering Congress for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and CQ Roll Call as well as the challenges and opportunities confronting congressional and political journalists today. This event was inspired by the ongoing Congress Week initiative, an annual program sponsored by the Associations of Centers for the Study of Congress (ACSC). The Russell Library is a founding member of ACSC.

Hallerman is a senior reporter for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's enterprise team, where she covers women in society, LGBTQ issues, the urban-rural divide, and other matters at the nexus of politics, business, and culture. She moved to Atlanta in December 2019 after four years as the AJC's Washington correspondent. On Capitol Hill, Hallerman chronicled how President Donald Trump's norm-shattering rise affected Georgia's congressional delegation. She also covered several U.S. House and Senate campaigns, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, and the state's protracted fights over emergency hurricane aid and water rights. Hallerman previously wrote about government spending for Congressional Quarterly (CQ) Roll Call, energy and climate change for a trade publication, and dabbled in public radio. A native of Blacksburg, Virginia, she attended American University in Washington D.C.

This Russell Library event will take place on Zoom Webinar. Advanced registration is required.  Please direct questions to Dr. Ashton Ellett at ellettag@uga.edu.
