"What Continues to Move Us: the Endurance of the Humanities" Elliot Shaw, a PhD Candidate in Comparative Literature at the University of Georgia.

This event is presented by COMPASS: The Comparative Literature Graduate Student Organization at UGA, the department of comparative literature and intercultural studies. This lecture explores the ever-present dilemma that faces the humanities: will the humanities continue to thrive? This dilemma forces humanities departments to consider the purpose of its existence. While some would suggest that the purpose is outdated, Shaw contends that the humanities is a necessary element to our everyday lives and academic pursuits.

Shaw is a 5th-year Ph.D. candidate. His dissertation is titled "The Apperceived Self: Toward a Theory of Life Writing."
