Workshop: Classroom Management: Balancing Instructor Authority and Student Agency

Classroom management is a critical aspect of effective teaching. Classroom management may include policies and procedures and the establishment of a tone that promotes student engagement and responsibility. Proactive (versus reactive) classroom management of students and the learning environment preempts disruptions, conflict and diversions that may disrupt otherwise meaningful learning experiences. In "Classroom Management: Balancing Instructor Authority and Student Agency," participants will contribute to a discussion of common teaching challenges, example classroom policies and the characteristics of effective classroom management styles. Special guest presenter: Dr. Anne K. Marcotte, Department of Language and Literacy Education
