CLASE Instructional Conversation Summer Institute: Gwinnett
Join CLASE for a 30-hour foundational professional learning Institute focused on the research-based pedagogy: Instructional Conversations (IC), which is a pedagogy found through empirical studies to improve the academic achievement of all students, but particularly culturally and linguistically diverse learners. The Institutes provide in-service teachers, counselors, and administrators two main benefits:
Intensive training and practice in culturally responsive pedagogy
A professional learning community with other educators within and across districts to support them as they implement the pedagogy
This pedagogy has the power to provide a structure for teachers to integrate focused language goals with rigorous content instruction rather than creating "one more thing" that teachers have to find time for. The Instructional Conversation (IC) system is a method of teaching that conceptualizes teaching and learning in a way that positively impacts student language development while opening the space for formative assessment and differentiation.
CLASE's highly interactive institutes are designed to model the instructional practices we are teaching. The 30 hours of intensive training in theory and practice of Instructional Conversations, includes: the linguistics of second language acquisition, strategies for integrating language goals into content teaching, tools for encouraging collaborative conversations and how to make content and language standards real and relevant for all learners while maintaining rigor.
