About this Event
Dr. Gunda Georg, Regents Professor and Founding Director of the Institute for Therapeutics Discovery and Development at the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, will be the featured speaker at the annual University of Georgia College of Pharmacy Chu Lectureship on Wednesday, March 15 at 9 am in the College’s David and Jane Chu Auditorium (Pharmacy South, Room 101).
The lecture, titled “The Male Pill: Are We There Yet?,” will focus on the discovery and development of the non-hormonal male contraceptive agent YCT529, a drug which acts as a potent and selective antagonist of the Vitamin A receptor retinoic acid receptor alpha. Studies on mice indicated a 99 percent reduction in sperm production, and it has proceeded to early stage human clinical trials as a potential male contraceptive.
