About this Event

In a lecture titled “Think Before You Send: Mitigating Legal Risk Through Careful Communication,” Beth Deeley will discuss how thoughtful communication can help mitigate litigation risk. She will also cover the discovery process, explaining how attorneys and other parties can access communications and documents, what types of information may be obtained, and providing examples of employee communications that have resulted in major lawsuits.
Beth is a seasoned trial lawyer who has represented companies, boards, and executives in high-stakes, high-profile litigation and regulatory investigations involving securities, consumer protection, data privacy, business tort, antitrust, and trade secret issues. Now retired, Beth was an equity partner at the world’s two largest law firms by revenue—Kirkland & Ellis and Latham & Watkins—where she held a variety of senior leadership roles, including Co-Chair of Latham’s Global Complex Commercial Litigation Practice.
She has received numerous awards and accolades for her work, including being named a Litigation Star by Benchmark Litigation; ranked among top California litigators by Chambers; recognized as a Technology MVP by Law360; honored as a Client Service All Star by BTI Consulting; named a Woman of Influence by the Silicon Valley Business Journal; and recognized as a Latino Leader Worth Watching by Diversity Journal.
Beth holds a BBA in International Business from the Terry College of Business and a JD with honors from The George Washington University Law School. She is a founding donor and active supporter of the Terry Women’s Initiative (now the Terry Edge Network) and recently joined the Terry Dean’s Advisory Council.
