CEID Annual Lecture: Jessica Metcalf

"Living Together on Short and Long Time-Scales: Hosts and Their Microbes," by C. Jessica Metcalf, assistant professor of ecology, evolutionary biology and public affairs, Princeton University.

Abstract: It is increasingly recognized that the microbes that live in and on us can modulate everything from ontogeny to health. Can we use theory from evolutionary ecology to probe this? I lay out some of the challenges; illustrate them using results from an experimental tomato-plant / microbiome system; and then describe expected selective outcomes on the hosts themselves in the context of pathogen defense and ontogeny.

There will be a reception in the Ecology Atrirum following Dr. Metcalf's lecture.
