Fala Aí, the magazine of the Portuguese Program at the University of Georgia, is looking for volunteers interested in developing their language, intercultural and digital skills. The magazine will consider both undergraduate and graduate students for the positions.
Fala Aí is an award-winning student-run publication about the Lusophone world. Its goal is to promote the Portuguese language and Lusophone cultures in the U.S. The content is created collaboratively by UGA students, Portuguese-speaking expats, and contributors from the community. Editors have published several issues both in paper and online versions that can be read here.
The editorial team is organized on an issue-by-issue basis. For the 2022 issue, they are looking for: Portuguese Language Editors: proof-reads submissions in Portuguese; English Language Editor: proof-reads submissions in English; Staff Writer: writes columns of their own that fit the purpose of the magazine; invites writers to contribute to specific columns; interviews potential guests (either on or off campus, via Zoom); Design Editor: creates page design; prepares posters for promotion and calls for publication; Social Media Manager: manages social media channels (Instagram and Facebook).
*Knowledge of Portuguese is only required for Portuguese Editors
This is a volunteer position in our magazine. For students in in the Portuguese Program at UGA, volunteering counts as cultural event credits. In any case, team members are welcome to list the experience in their CVs, and editors will be pleased to provide volunteers with a certificate and write letters of recommendation based on their work.
