The Complex Systems Research Seminar this year, included talksfrom faculty members across the campus, and two talks from external speakers. The question now, at the end of the year, is what has been discovered about complex systems that brings together all of the research across campus. This talk will attempt to find the common threads that holds all UGA’s Linguistic work together. Two terms offer a central idea about Linguistic study: interaction and emergence. How different scientific models areused in different fields has also been explored, but common to most of those models is an interest in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), thus deriving methods that can be used to describe and track interaction and emergence.
