About this Event
WUGA's Artist in Residence event for October concludes this five-year series.
Dr. Lawrence Stueck is WUGA’s October Artist. in Residence, and guests will celebrate his creative, wide-ranging portfolio.
Three of the new bus stops around Athens are Dr. Stueck's collaborative work with Leonard Piha. The two men collaborated on the fun and colorful Gyroscope House at the World of Wonder in Southeast Athens park.
Stueck has designed more than 60 playscapes — for example, at Harris Shoals Park in Watkinsville and others in Athens and surrounding counties. The playgrounds are remembered fondly by young adults, but the structures are now at risk for demolition.
Stueck is also a painter and inventor; some of his work is quite serious while other constructions are fanciful and playful. He taught art at Athens Academy for 17 years and is one of the founders of OCAF, an important community institution in Watkinsville.
As an adjunct professor, he taught Sculpture and 3D Design at UGA’s Lamar Dodd School of Art and The Design of Learning Environments in the College of Education.
Hors d'oeuvres will be catered by Marti’s at Midday, and Pairings Food & Wine provides uncommonly good wines.
