About this Event
View map Free EventUGA's Annual Suicide Prevention Walk benefits the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), a nonprofit national organization aimed at preventing and understanding suicide through research, education and advocacy. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for college-aged students. Suicide is in the top ten leading causes of death for all age groups, and takes the lives of about 42,773 Americans each year. The purpose of having these walks is to raise money for the amazing work AFSP does (See https://afsp.org/our-work/), and to also raise awareness in our community for suicide prevention. The mental illness stigma in our nation is often baffling, but standing up and being vocal can change that. That is what we hope to do.
This will be the fourth annual Out of the Darkness Campus walk to be held at the University of Georgia. Over the last four years, the event has raised a total of $16,113.
