Summer was made for outdoor concerts, and so were the amphitheater and terraced lawns in the Flower Garden of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia. Now in its 16th season, the Sunflower Music Series has placed both world-renowned and new-on-the-scene musicians in a world-class botanical environment. David Lowery is a mathematician, writer, musician, producer and serial entrepreneur based in Richmond, Va., and Athens. While studying mathematics and computers in the early 1980s, Lowery founded the critically acclaimed ensemble Camper Van Beethoven and helped jump start the Indie Rock movement. In 1991, Lowery moved on to the ensemble Cracker, which produced five top 10 alternative/rock songs and three platinum albums. Lowery began teaching economics and finance to students in the UGA Terry College of Business Music Business Certificate program in 2011.

The Sunflower Music Series is sponsored by The Coca-Cola Company - Athens, Flagpole magazine, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers. Friends of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia and Northeast Sales Distributing Company.
