In his interaction discussion on “hedonic accounting,” personal finance professor Matt J. Goren merges the psychology of happiness with personal finance planning. He demonstrates how spending more on what makes us happy paradoxically reduces overall spending while increasing quality of life. He offers practical advice on how to cut certain expenses, increase income, save more and ultimately move forward on the “path to financial independence.” This framework is particularly impactful for college students as they transition away from living at home and toward entering the workforce.
