Since 1995, the orchestra has been based in Athens, where Levon Ambartsumian is now the Franklin Professor of Violin at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. ARCO has given concerts each year since 2001 at Carnegie Hall in New York City, and a recent tour in Italy included a performance in La Fenice, the famous opera house in Venice.
Established in Moscow in 1990 by Ambartsumian during his years as professor of violin at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the ARCO Chamber Orchestra drew high critical praise and enthusiastic audience response both in Moscow and during tours that took the orchestra to Italy, Spain, Germany, Romania, France and Korea.
