"Abyssinian: A Gospel Celebration," featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. Marsalis composed the Abyssinian mass in honor of the 200th anniversary of Harlem’s landmark Abyssinian Baptist Church. Utilizing the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as well as a sixty-voice choir, the music draws on a broad spectrum of American music.
Marsalis is known as the most outstanding jazz musician and trumpeter of his generation, a big band leader in the tradition of Duke Ellington, a brilliant composer and a tireless educator. As director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, he heads one of America’s most vibrant musical organizations.
