Celebration and information sessions on Fulbright grants. Hear from UGA Fulbright recipients including undergraduate and graduate student alumni, UGA Fulbright scholars, and visiting Fulbrighters from other countries.

University of Georgia students, faculty, and staff are invited to learn more about opportunities abroad available through the Fulbright Program, the largest U.S. international exchange program, during a campus-wide presentation on February 23 from 3-6 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Tate Student Center.
 
The schedule is as follows:
 
3:00PM – Welcome
Grand Hall D
Dr. Kavita Pandit, Associate Provost for International Education, will speak about the importance of cultural exchange and introduce UGA Fulbrights.
 
3:30PM – Panel Discussions
Grand Hall A, B & C
Panel discussions will feature UGA faculty, administrators, and students who have traveled overseas as Fulbright recipients. They will speak about the highlights of their Fulbright experience and address questions about the application process.
 
Grand Hall A – Faculty/Administration panel
Faculty and administrators interested in the Fulbright Scholar Program should attend. The panel will include the following UGA Fulbrights: Dr.
Jeff Bennetzen, Giles Professor of Genetics and GRA Eminent Scholar, UK (1990) and France/Mali (2008); Dr. Deborah J. Tippins, Professor of Mathematics and Science Education, Philippines (2001); Dr. Edward Halper, Professor of Philosophy, Germany (2002); Dr. Don R. McCreary, Professor of English and Linguistics, Malaysia (1991) and Hungary (2001); Nancy McDuff, Associate Vice President for Admissions and Enrollment Management, Japan (2009); and Leigh Poole, Associate Director of Intercultural Affairs for International Student Life, Germany (2004) and South Korea (2008).
 
Grand Hall B – Undergraduate student panel
Undergraduates interested in year-long graduate study, independent research, creative pursuits, or an English Teaching Assistantship should attend. The panel will feature alumni who recently completed their Fulbright year: Jeremy Akin, Uganda, 2010-2011, research on mediation and land disputes; Abby Zylla, Fiji, 2010-2011, research on sustainability and ecotourism; and Kelly Nielsen, Indonesia, 2009-2010, English Teaching Assistant.
 
Grand Hall C – Graduate student panel
Graduate students interested in funding for research abroad should attend. The panel will feature graduate students who recently returned from their Fulbright year: Julie Rushmore, Ecology PhD / Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, Uganda, 2009-2010; April Conway, Forest Resources PhD, Sierra Leone, 2010-2011; and Jennifer Olson, Higher Education PhD, Fulbright to Germany, 2010-2011.
5:00PM – Reception

Grand Hall F
Visiting Fulbright students and scholars will talk about their Fulbright experience in the U.S and present displays on their home countries. Refreshments will be served. Sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.
