ServeUGA: Brooklyn Cemetery

Service / Volunteer Opportunities

The purpose of this service project is to not only educate participants of the historical significance of the cemetery but to also aid in the ongoing beautification, preservation, and research of a once lost landmark of the African American community in Athens. Volunteers will work to remove overgrowth, fallen limbs, and underbrush from the grave sites.

ServeUGA: Senior Home Assistance and Repair

Service / Volunteer Opportunities

Join ServeUGA this semester for volunteer opportunities with Senior Home Assistance And Repair (SHAARE), which assists low-income senior and elderly homeowners with needs around their house, such as repairs, improvements, and yardwork. ServeUGA volunteers on an ongoing basis with SHAARE. Once volunteers sign-up, a Service Ambassador (ServeUGA site leader) will be in touch with more information about what to expect and transportation to the site. If volunteers require transportation, meet the Service Ambassadors at the Center for Leadership and Service (2nd floor, Tate) 20 minutes prior to the event start time.

Ripple Effect Blue Carpet Premiere

Films

Finalist films from the 2017 Ripple Effect Film Project ocean-themed video contest will be showcased. The contest was launched last fall as a partnership between a team of University of Georgia-based marine scientists and several local and statewide conservation agencies to promote increased understanding of the connection between human activities and ocean health.
