Ajay Nair, senior vice president and dean of Campus Life at Emory University, will join us as this year’s Visiting Practitioner. Russell Building Special Collections Libraries, then join this monthly book club with light refreshments and discussion on works connected to upcoming/ongoing exhibitions and programs. The monthly titles are selected (and discussions led) by Special Collections staff who help to create these displays/programs, and invite readers to learn more about the topics explored and to take them into new, related areas of interest.

Lecture: Rob Stein - From AIDS to Zika

NPR health correspondent and senior editor Rob Stein has covered global infectious diseases since the early days of the AIDS pandemic, also reporting on emerging pathogens such as SARS and perennial threats such as influenza. On Tuesday, Jan. 24, Stein will visit the University of Georgia to talk about his journey as he opens the 2017 Global Diseases: Voices from the Vanguard lecture series.

Sam Lai is an associate professor in Molecular Pharmaceutics at UNC Chapel Hill. The Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences hosts a weekly research seminar series during the Fall and Spring semesters. Each week, a speaker with expertise in cutting-edge pharmaceutical and biomedical research talks about their work in an hour-long seminar. Past speakers have visited from such prestigious institutions as the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Carnegie Mellon University, and Emory University. Seminars are open free to the public.

This year's keynote address, "From Rocks to Spiders: Geologic Controls on Trace Metals affect Aquatic-Riparian Linkages in Rocky Mountain Streams," will be given by David Walters, a research scientist with the U.S.G.S. and an affiliate faculty member at Colorado State University.
