Student Success Workshop: Studying in Groups

Classes and Workshops

This workshop will help students learn how to leverage group study strategies as they seek to master the material and prepare for final exams. Students will learn how to utilize the strengths of others and groups help compensate for individual members’ weaknesses. Students will also learn the “do’s” and “don’t’s” of how to study in groups.

Innovation Gateway Lunch & Learn: Financing & Accounting 101

The Innovation Gateway Lunch & Learn series provides training and presentation sessions that occur once a month during the lunch hour. The goal is to inform and inspire individuals working with startup companies as well as those interested in issues facing university startups. Topics range from employment issues and tax credits to grant programs and intellectual property. The Innovation Gateway Lunch & Learn on Sept. 19 will feature Lisa Rawls, founder and principal of Evergreen CFO, who will present on start-up financing and accounting practices. Workshop: Writing in the FYO

Classes and Workshops

This workshop, designed for those who teach a seminar as part of the FYO program, will focus on creating successful and appropriate writing assignments for one-hour FYO seminars. Faculty will leave this session with a better understanding of the appropriate amount of writing for a FYO seminar, ideas for assignments they can integrate into their own FYO courses and resources they can reference throughout the delivery of their seminar.

Cinema Politique: “12 Angry Men”

Film screening and discussion. Film summary: "12 Angry Men" focuses on the jury deliberations in a murder case. Did the eighteen-year-old defendant murder his father? Eleven jurors are ready to vote "yes," but Juror #8, played by Henry Fonda, has doubts. Sidney Lumet's 1957 film explores human nature and the American legal system. Discussant: Susan Haire, School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA). Dr. Haire teaches undergraduate and graduate courses that focus on American courts, gender, and research methods and serves as Director of Criminal Justice Studies, an interdisciplinary undergraduate degree program at UGA.

Sunflower Music Series: David Lowery
